Capstone Progress Week 3- First sketch.

High-level summary:

  1. Initial information layout on a weekly learning basis.
  2. Tasks are categorized in: Read, Do, Equip. to reflect essential learnings and preparation to-do list.
  3. Competition is still there in an honor code monitoring system. But the reviewing of un-quantifiable tasks will involve the partners to engage more communication.

First layout sketch

Dashboard

A weekly to-do list will be presented and users can see what is coming in the coming weeks. Tasks will be identified as Read, Do and Equip. From the book that I am referencing, each week takes only about a page. So I am adding things dads can start to prepare as if the mom will be on top of it instead. This will the prep can be eased into simple tasks the pressure on the moms will be less.

Weekly Read

Under this card, dad will be reading something short and informative related to the week of pregnancy that they are in or something about future baby care. One thing I found from the interviews is that the dads are not connected with the baby when they are in the belly. The weekly simple baby care readings can introduce them early on about the baby instead of them reading everything closer to the due or even afterward.

One way to just give them a high-level content recap is to give them 2–3 questions to answer related to the reading. They do not have to go back and find the answers. Even they answered it wrong, it will tell me the right answer to reinforce memorization.

Weekly Do

Keep reading can be tiring and boring. The dads I interviewed expressed a strong will to take good care of their partners. And also the moms mentioned that they wish the dads could be more involved. So this weekly do section will be asking dads to do something with the mom. Engage more communication and understanding.

For more engagement, dads can invite moms to rate how they did on the tasks. The exact rating method will be thought through. But moms are willing to rate the dads. But they still expressed the concern of whether the dads will do this. Some sort of rewarding method is still ideal for motivation.

Weekly Equip

Buying strollers, baby beds, baby clothes are mostly initiated by the mom. In this section, dads will be reading some information about the equipment that they are getting and get started on getting them.

Performance review

Here is a soft touch on the competition. Dads will see how they are compared to other users without knowing how exactly the system rates. But in their mind, they know how much they actually have done. An honoring system works if this is something they care about and want to do well in. But I am still in debate about a smart way to motivate them to use it.
